Surprise Feature: Night
An anonymous deviant recently gave me the generous gift of a month-long core membership, so I wanted to celebrate with another poll feature! This month's chosen theme is, as the title suggests, Night.
The moonlit hours can mean many different things to many different people. My first word was 'Moon', so it's no surprise that my heart has long been with the silver light of the night sky. The literature I've selected is a mix of both poetry and prose that I think captures the different ways of looking at night. Some of the poems make use of metaphor while others are more concrete, but all are very well-written.

Victory Keep: Chapter 1
Edgar stepped into a clearing and found a centaur suckling her child. He threw his hands over his eyes.
'I am terribly sorry, madam!'
'It's all right.'
Her tone was scornful, but with better things to worry about, Edgar did not take it to heart. He uncovered his eyes. She was feeding the child like a mare, not a woman, so he felt no need for embarrassment. He stooped down a little, trying to determine the gender of the young one. As with foals, it was easy enough to tell.
'What a delightful little boy,' he said.
The mother smiled. 'Thank you.'
